Mask Mandate Update

Dear RISE Family,

You may have heard that California state health officials and the L.A. County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) have updated their COVID prevention protocols. In Los Angeles, schools and workplaces now have the option to either require OR strongly recommend indoor masking.

It is Da Vinci RISE High’s new COVID masking policy to continue to abide by the masking policies of their collocation partners. As a result, indoor masking regardless of vaccination status will continue to be required.

As a school in partnership with multiple organizations (New Earth, Richstone, A Place Called Home), RISE High staff and students will abide by the masking policies of their collocation partners. Therefore, we will update our staff, students, families and stakeholders of any updates to our site locations masking guidance, which may differ across sites.

Summer 2022 Opportunities

Da Vinci Students and Families,

We are happy to offer a number of exciting summer opportunities for students. In this document, you will find a running list of internships, volunteer, and college opportunities.

Some opportunities have fast-approaching deadlines! We will continue to make updates as more opportunities arise.

Students are eligible to receive 5 summer school credits for 60 hours of service. Opportunities can be combined to reach the 60 hours.

Outside internship: Do you already have an internship secured? Let Crissel know so she can make sure you earn summer school credit for it!

ELIGIBILITY:
- Unless otherwise stated, the opportunities are open to all grade levels.
- In addition to the applications required by industry partners, students must provide the following:
  - A paragraph explaining why this internship is interesting to you and what you hope to gain from the experience. Please include if you have any other summer commitments (a summer job, taking care of siblings, planned vacations, etc.)
- Students are expected to communicate with industry partners and Crissel independent of parents/guardians. Students are expected to communicate promptly and professionally via email.

ELPAC Notification

RISE Parents and Stakeholders, please review the notification letter about the upcoming administration of the ELPAC, a required state test for all English Learners enrolled at DV RISE HS. All English Learners will take the exam between March and the end of May 2022. To learn more, click on HERE.

Transportation Career Academy Program through Metro

TCAP provides summer internship opportunities to current junior and seniors (class of 2022 and 2023), who depend on transit, reside in LA County, live in close proximity of a Metro rail station and whose schools are located near Metro’s rail expansion efforts. This program offers students an opportunity to learn about careers in transportation and how to apply classroom theories and concepts to “real-world” work situations at one of the nation’s largest public transportation agencies.

Skills You’ll Learn

· The opportunity to explore careers in transportation
· A chance to apply knowledge from high school coursework to real-world work experience
· Get on-the-job work experience in a specific career pathway or in a specific technical area
· Build a professional relationship with a mentor
· Learn about Metro’s innovative approach to promoting transportation and safety education programs

Boeing Summer Internships

This summer, go beyond classroom learning by interning at Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company. As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience, learn from experts, and collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things.

Interested students must be in their junior year right now and going into their senior year in the fall. They must be 16 years old and a US Citizen by the program start date of June 20th.

To learn more, students and parents must attend one of the following mandatory information sessions.

Fired Up! Girls Empowerment Camp

The El Segundo Fire and Community Services Departments have teamed up to offer this empowering and educational experience for girls within the local community. The “Fired Up!” Girls’ Empowerment Camp will be held on March 26^th– 27^th and will give girls the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real firefighting gear, as they learn what it’s like to be a firefighter.

Watch Fire Chief Deena Lee introduce the camp in this promotional video!

This two-day camp is open for girls aged 12-19 and is FREE for all attendees.

El Segundo residents can register for the camp beginning Tuesday, March 1st, by visiting esrec.org and clicking on the “Camps” tab. Non-resident registration opens on Tuesday, March 8th.

This is a great opportunity to stay informed and get involved with our RISE school community. Through our ELAC Meeting we will dive deeper into our English Learner needs and through our SSC we will focus on our instructional program and preparations for our upcoming 2023 LCAP!

Internship Opportunity: Social Media Student Intern for WDV Athletics

WDV Athletics is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Social Media Student Intern who will help highlight athletic teams, players, and game highlights. We need a social media student intern who can post content on Instagram and Twitter, and coordinate interactions between our team social channels. This unpaid internship also offers the intern the opportunity to work in partnership with Da Vinci’s Marketing & Communications team.

Qualifications:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail in grammar, spelling and punctuation
Familiar with social media including Instagram and Twitter
Graphic Design experience preferred: Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva, etc.
Ability to engage with individuals of varying ages and backgrounds
Self-motivated, comfortable in taking initiative
Great attitude – willingness to learn, ability to multitask

Responsibilities for the Social Media Intern:

Assist in managing the WDV Athletics Instagram and Twitter pages with a specific focus on sharing athlete stories, celebrating game results, featuring support for teams, sharing tryout information and upcoming games, and other relevant events
Use graphics and photography/video to create visually appealing and creative content
Interact with the WDV Athletics fanbase
Report to weekly social media meeting, brainstorm ideas

This is a great opportunity for a talented student who is interested in leveraging their passion for athletics and social media/marketing. Interested applicants must be in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year. The internship will start immediately and will continue for the remaining part of the semester. To apply please submit a cover letter, resume and three to five examples of social media posts you have created that highlight your talent as a social media content creator to Donald Moreland at dmoreland@davincischools.org. Time commitment: Approximately 3 hours per week. Most of the work will be remote.

PCR Testing Available

Da Vinci Schools is proud to offer onsite PCR testing for students and staff starting THIS WEDS! This does not replace our existing rapid testing program.

First event: Weds 1/19/22

Time: 230-430pm, first come first serve.
Rest of semester: Weekly on Tuesdays 230-430p

Location: 201 N Douglas Street, COVID tent in backyard by lunch area

Pre-registration required: https://ihd-patient.preciseq.com/davinci-schools

What to bring: ID and unique QR code provided after registration (This code is to be used for the lifetime of the Testing Program. Please present this code to the technician prior to every test)

*Please note, insurance information is required, so we encourage students to register at home with access to their insurance card.
