Support RISE High All Year: Make your Recurring Donation Today!

RISE Community and Supporters,

We are in the final week of RISE High’s inaugural Giving Campaign and are excited to share that we have raised nearly $35,000! As begin to wrap up the campaign, we have set the ambitious goal of raising another $15,300 in order to take full advantage of the generous Donor Match from Desolation Hotel.

Meeting this goal is easier than it seems. We only need 75 individuals to commit to recurring donations, and we are confident that our network of supporters can make this happen.

Each day this week, we will be aiming for a specified number of donors to commit to a certain dollar amount to support RISE throughout the year.

Today, our goal is to recruit 25 donors to make one year of recurring donations in the amount of $25.

If everyone on this email signed up for a recurring donation and encouraged one friend to do the same, the goal would be met!

Head over to tinyurl.com/RISEdonate TODAY and join our incredible team of donors. Be sure to update the donation frequency to “Monthly” to ensure your gift supports the work of RISE year-round.

Thank you for all of your continued support and generosity. The work we do would not be possible with you.

NWEA MAP Testing Week

Dear DV RISE Students and Families,

During the week of October 4th,  the students of Da Vinci RISE High will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a school computer. MAP® Growth™ scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth, specifically in reading and math skills. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students. As a Year 5 focus at Da Vinci RISE High, we are striving to provide accurate literacy data to students, stakeholders, and governing boards in order to graduate critical thinkers who possess the skills and passion to create change.

MAP® Growth™ tests are unique, and it adapts to your student’s responses to measure your student’s skill level. If your student answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

MAP® Growth™ reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level. All students, regardless of course-load or weekly schedule, will complete the MAP® Growth™ testing for English and Math. This is the second of four testing periods this school year. Following this testing period, you will receive a Family Report showing a summary of how your child is performing academically.

As you are aware, all of our students have their own Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) and this assessment is one more tool to assist us in personalizing the learning pathway and help strengthen your youth’s skills.

We are truly excited to focus on your student’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.

Sincerely,

Erin Whalen

Executive Director, Da Vinci RISE High School

Ewhalen@davincischools.org

Sinceramente,

Erin Whalen

XQ Social and Emotional Learning Survey

RISE Community,

At Da Vinci RISE, we all believe that students are more than just their math and reading test scores. For that reason, RISE students will share their voice with us by participating in The Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Survey, which is part of the XQ Super Schools Student Performance Framework (SPF). Students will take this survey within their classes this week (9/20-9/24). This framework was born from the desire for a more authentic, holistic, and student-centered approach to understanding your growth and learning. We want you to have a tool that captures all of the parts of your experience and development during your time in high school.

This online survey will provide students, their teachers, staff, stakeholders, and researchers at MDRC with information on how students learn, think, and feel about school and the world around them. All students will fill out three surveys during the 2021-22 school year.  The information they provide in these surveys will help the RISE staff understand more about our student’s learning and development than traditional academic assessments could do alone. The information will also help our partners at MDRC understand how students in different schools across the United States are learning and growing. We estimate that it will take approximately 10 minutes to answer the survey.

Student responses will be kept confidential and never reported at an individual level. MDRC will have access to anonymized information, meaning they will receive responses from students with an ID number, but they will never know who they really are. No one else will have access to the information provided by those participating in this survey, and when we report findings back to the schools, we will never discuss any individual student, nor will we report any small subgroup to ensure confidentiality.

If you have any questions or concerns about the survey, please feel to reach out to us directly!

Erin Whalen, Principal and Executive Director
