Dear Parents,

It’s cold and flu season again. We want to remind you how to keep your child and others healthy.  The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. If your child is diagnosed with Influenza, please let your school health team know as we track clusters and outbreaks.

Signs and symptoms of flu

People who have the flu can feel some or all of these signs and symptoms:

  • Fever or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (very tired)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

Please remind your child to wash their hands often and cover their coughs. Remember to keep them home when they have one or more of the following:

  • A fever of 100˚ or higher before taking medication to reduce the fever
  • Vomiting or persistent diarrhea in the last 24 hours
  • Excessive tiredness or lack of appetite
  • Intense headache, sore throat, body aches, chills, or earache
  • Persistent, productive cough, keeping them up at night

Your child may return to school when:

  • Fever is gone for 24 hours without medication
  • No vomiting or diarrhea during the last 24 hours
  • If given antibiotics, has taken them for at least 24 hours
  • Appetite and energy level have returned to normal

Please contact the Da Vinci Director of Health Services if you have any questions.

*Please note all COVID cases must be reported to school health team for isolation and return guidance and tracking of outbreaks.
